unwind your mind

welcome back to Sunday Goods!
lets talk -
have you ever played with a slinky?
that little coil of metal that stretches and bounces in your hands?
it’s kind of magical how it expands and contracts, giving you space between each loop; our brain’s frontal cortex—the part responsible for things like decision-making, planning, & controlling impulses, works in a similar way.
when life gets chaotic or overwhelming, it’s like your frontal cortex is all bunched up, just like a scrunched slinky.
your thoughts feel tangled, your emotions might feel intense, & making decisions becomes harder.
you might find yourself reacting without thinking or stuck in repetitive negative loops.
the good news?
you can help your brain “stretch out” & create space.
this mental space is crucial because it allows you to slow down, observe your thoughts instead of getting lost in them, & choose your response instead of reacting impulsively.
how do you create that space? there are many ways, and it doesn’t have to be complicated!!!
try taking a few deep breaths and focusing on your body or surroundings.
go for a walk outside & notice the details around you: the color of leaves, the sound of birds.
journaling your thoughts can also help you untangle & externalize them.
even just pausing for a moment before answering a text or making a decision lets your brain stretch out.
when you practice giving your frontal cortex this room to breathe, it becomes easier to manage stress, regulate emotions, and find clarity.
think of it like playing with a slinky: sometimes you need to stretch it out before it can bounce back smoothly.
your brain needs that same space to function at its best.
so next time your mind feels crowded or overwhelmed, remember the slinky.
you can always create space — one breath, one step, one pause at a time.
love you always,
elle
