the power of perspective

Welcome back to Sunday Goods!
How are you really doing?
The other day, a friend asked me how I was doing. You know that moment—where you pause, weigh how honest to be, and wonder if you’re about to overshare or underplay?
The truth? Life has been a mix of setbacks and small wins lately.
There are things not going my way - things I wish were different - things I’m still figuring out.
But after sitting with the question for a second longer, I realized: I have a roof over my head - I have food in my fridge - I have a job - I have people in my life who truly love me, & that shifted everything.
Perspective is everything.
It’s easy to let our minds cling to what’s going wrong.
Our brains are wired to scan for danger, to protect us from the worst-case scenarios: but when we practice zooming out, we can see the full picture— & that picture often holds more beauty and abundance than we initially notice.
Gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring what’s hard.
It means acknowledging both: “yes, this is tough. & yes, I still have things to be thankful for.”
It’s not blind optimism. It’s balanced perspective.
Maybe you’re in a season that feels heavy - maybe things aren’t unfolding the way you hoped.
But look around. Look at the things you prayed for a year ago that are now part of your everyday life. Look at the quiet ways life is still showing up for you.
When in doubt, come back to the basics:
• do I have a safe place to sleep?
• do I have at least one person who loves me?
• do I have the ability to take another step forward, even a small one?
If the answer is yes, you’re doing better than your inner critic gives you credit for.
This week, I’m choosing to see the whole picture - to zoom out - to remind myself that even in the middle of the mess, there’s still a lot going right.
& maybe that’s enough for now.
This week’s gentle reminder: you can hold space for struggle and still find the good - that’s not denial—it’s resilience.
with care,
elle
