the art of doing nothing (its good to do sometimes)

welcome back to Sunday Goods! ( lol its been awhile,, whoops!)

& if you’ve been keeping up with Sunday Goods, you might’ve noticed a tiny… okay, not-so-tiny… pause in our weekly posts.

about four weeks, if we’re being exact. & here’s the truth:
I took a break, not because of anything dramatic or urgent, but simply because I needed one. I was tired, felt a little lazy, and just wanted to step back for a bit.

we live in this era where productivity is treated like a personality trait. where rest is seen as slacking.

where you feel like you need a “good enough” excuse to not be operating at 110%.
but here’s the thing, sometimes your body, mind, & spirit don’t need a reason.

they just need a pause.

not because you earned it.
not because you checked everything off a list.
not because life got heavy.

but because you’re human.

we use the word “lazy” like it’s something to be ashamed of, when really, it’s often just your mind telling you:

“hey. slow down. you’re not a machine.”

lazy days are often the days where your nervous system finally exhales.

where your creativity quietly resets. where life begins to feel soft again.

you know what’s actually harmful? forcing yourself to grind when your mind is begging for a reset.

the moment we drop the guilt around resting is the moment we stop turning life into a never-ending competition.

there doesn’t need to be an excuse attached to your need for stillness. rest doesn’t require a permission slip.

& since it’s the holidays, a season that can be as overwhelming as it is beautiful, I want to remind you to give yourself permission to slow down, to step back, & to breathe.

don’t hold yourself to the crazy expectations that the world (& sometimes even we ourselves) heap on us this time of year.

you don’t have to be “on” all the time. you don’t have to be merry if you’re not feeling it. you don’t have to do it all.

if you’re feeling alone or overwhelmed, know you’re not. it’s okay to feel all the feels.

the holidays can be tough, & it’s perfectly okay to take care of yourself first.

with all that being said, here I am, back feeling rested, re-inspired, & ready.

not because I forced myself into discipline but because the break naturally led me back.

that’s the funny thing about slowing down;
eventually, the desire to move returns on its own.

if you need the gentle reminder:

taking a break is not falling behind.
being lazy sometimes is not a flaw.
resting without an excuse is allowed.
you’re allowed to put things down & you’re allowed to pick them back up when you’re ready.

here’s to the break that brought us back here.
here’s to listening to our bodies before our guilt.
here’s to Sunday Goods, returning exactly when it was meant to.

love you always,

elle
