not everything you think is true

welcome back to sunday goods!
sunday has a quiet way of slowing things down.
it gives us space to think, & sometimes, to notice something important: not every thought that passes through our mind is actually true.
our minds are incredibly powerful.
they can create entire stories from a single moment.
one comment from someone, one mistake, one awkward interaction, & suddenly the mind builds a whole narrative around it.
"they must think I'm incompetent."
"I'm probably not good enough for this."
"everyone noticed that."
but here’s the thing: most of the time, those thoughts are guesses, not facts.
the mind is a pattern-making machine. it tries to protect us by predicting outcomes, interpreting signals, & filling in gaps.
that ability has helped humans survive for thousands of years. the problem is that the same system that protects us can also mislead us.
a passing mood can convince you that your whole life is off track.
one setback can make the mind whisper that you'll never succeed.
a single criticism can drown out ten compliments.
the thought feels real, but feelings are not proof.
one of the most powerful skills you can develop is the ability to step back & observe your own thoughts instead of immediately believing them.
when you do that, something interesting happens: you realize that thoughts come & go like weather.
a cloudy thought doesn't mean the sky is permanently gray.
the mind can tell you you're stuck, but the mind is also the same place where creativity, resilience, & new possibilities are born.
the same mental power that creates doubt can also create courage.
the same imagination that worries about worst-case scenarios can also imagine better futures.
in other words, the mind isn't just a storyteller, it's also an editor.
you get to question the stories.
you can ask simple but powerful questions:
"is this thought actually true?"
"what evidence do I really have?"
"is there another explanation?"
often, you'll discover that the harshest voice in your head is simply an old habit of thinking.
& habits can change.
sunday is a good day to remember that your thoughts are tools, not rulers.
they can guide you, inspire you, & help you grow but they don't have to control how you see yourself or the world.
not everything you think is true.
but the mind that created those thoughts also has the power to rewrite them.
& that's a pretty powerful place to start the week.
love you always,
elle
